Optimization and Wellness

Our focus at The SHOW Center is on education and practical application of biopsychosocial approaches to health and wellness. This approach to care is very personalized and it is not a one-size-fits-all paradigm.

Most of our patients come to us for sexual health concerns and as we start to unravel the puzzle we realize that patients often have other conditions that are leading to some of their issues. We spend a great deal of time with patients understanding the root cause of their condition and often find that sexual health concerns are often relate to:

  • Thyroid conditions
  • Gut conditions
  • Adrenal conditions
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Menopause
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum

What is Holistic Medicine?

Holistic medicine is a patient-focused model of healthcare that looks and treats illness with a integrative science-based approach. It deals with looking for the root cause of conditions and fixing imbalances and dysfunction. It aims to restore the body to optimal functioning and not to just treat symptoms but find the reason for illness and address that. It is possible to look at sexual dysfunction through this lens.

What is the Holistic Medicine approach?

The holistic medicine approach is based on looking at removing toxicity, improving digestion, replacing deficiencies and restoring balance in the body to restore optimal health. Looking at a condition from root cause involves evaluating the whole patient to include their gut, adrenal, thyroid, and hormonal imbalances. It can also involve a very team-centric approach that includes nutritionists, physical therapists, sex therapists, and health coaches as part of the team.

Holistic medicine treats the person behind the disease and not just the symptoms and offers an integrative approach so that the bodily systems can work together and not as separate entities. Dysfunction in one bodily system is usually linked to another. For instance, depression and anxiety may often be linked to gut dysfunction and inflammation as well as sexual dysfunction. Initial appointments last up to an hour and a half for full history and timeline to give a precise picture and implement a treatment plan.

How do I begin?

The first step in the journey to healing is to realize whatever issues you are dealing with now are treatable and can be improved. We will work through this together. You need to embrace self-love and accept yourself and your body for who you are and how it functions. In our journey we want you to become comfortable with and in touch with your own sexuality. At The SHOW Center we want to help you to improve intimacy with your partner- no matter what emotional or medical issues have developed over time.

Why is my desire/body continually changing and disconnected?

Your desire is still within you, and we here to help you work on low desire/libido issues through a bio-psycho-social approach. We will also work through counseling to help you identify how your health issues or that of your partner that may be impeding intimacy and create modifications to enjoy sex. Don’t limit yourself to a narrow definition of sex. We are here to help you understand how your body changes around the time of menopause, after childbirth, or after cancer and how to adapt to the changes to enhance intimacy. We want you to be able to come to a non-judgmental place that will enable you to explore any sexual interests you may have in a safe environment.
